New 7” Album News & Photo Winners!

We are delighted to announce the upcoming This Town Needs Guns 7” release coming on Sargent House. It has two tracks, the last recordings that will have Stu on vocals. You will be able to download the tracks right away when you pre-order starting on or around October 1st.

Congratulations go out to the winning photos that made the covers!

We chose two photographs after a few hours of deliberation and decided that Oswaldo Guadarrama and Ousseynou Cissé’s photographs best represented the look we wanted to achieve for this release. The photos struck a chord with us and we definitely are very happy that these lovely gentlemen’s photographs sit well with the overall finished vinyl. We knew as soon as we looked that the images that they were great shots and they were always at the top of the pile from then on.” - TTNG

PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION for Album Cover of 7” RELEASE

EARTHLINGS,

You may or may not know that we will be releasing a 7” containing two songs. We have continued writing for our forthcoming album, but two tracks are complete with vocals from one Stuart Smith, which we are planning to release this Summer. We will be recording these in July and are looking to prepare the artwork soon.

We are now looking to our wonderful fans to help us complete this release by us holding a photography competition. So what we are wanting is for you to send us a photograph (one entry per person) and we will choose our favourite image to be the sleeve artwork for the upcoming vinyl, which will be released through the awesome SARGENT HOUSE.

The main requirements are that the photo needs to be TAKEN BY YOU and to be high enough resolution to print. We have a design chap (Jamie (me)) who can help you with any issues you might have and can prepare the photo for the artwork/layout if you don’t know how.

• The photo will be at least 2272 x 1704 pixels (4mp) But the higher the better.
• CMYK (but that is easy to do!)
• 300dpi (as above!)
• NO photoshopping/design elements allowed
• NO pornography or disturbing images and nothing abusive or insulting to any race, sex or religion.
• NO cruelty towards any animal/living organism.
• NO using other people’s images or stealing. Thieves are lame as f*ck.
• One entry per person
• If a human appears in the image, you need to have their explicit permission for the image to be used. (this means a signature from them for permission to print the photo.)
• NO images of strangers/crowds of people.

The subject is entirely up to you.

The winning photo will be chosen by us, we will not tolerate bribery and are by no means swayed by ‘interesting’ offers. The winner will receive a signed copy of the vinyl and any other merch we have which is likely to be a t-shirt and a tab book. Also you will be credited on the sleeve and you will be generally awesome in the eyes of Thor, and us.

Good luck and we look forward to seeing the entries. :)

Email: thistownneedsguns.uk (at) gmail.com with your entry attached. Title your email thusly: Photography Competition.

Closing date: Thursday 30th June.

Blizzaow!

Happy / Sad / A Message From Stu

Happy/Sad

A Message From Stu
So this is a post I never thought I’d have to write. First up, the happy news. In October this year (so long as everything goes to plan) I’ll be welcoming my first born child into the world. It’s one of the best things that has ever happened to me and I couldn’t be happier.

Now for the sad bit…unfortunately this means I can’t commit the same amount of time to the band that the others would like to. This has not been an easy decision. My life has taken a different path and it just doesn’t seem right for me to hold back the rest of the band.

I hope that we’ll be able to record some of the songs we have already been playing live and do some sort of release soon. That being said, plans will continue for the band to go on and record an album with possibly the best replacement I could imagine. Many of you will already know Henry Tremain from ‘Pennines’. We have all been long time fans and were all delighted when he said he would pick up the mantle and help TTNG carry on. He is a fantastic musician and all-round great dude. His inclusion in TTNG can only help improve their sound.

Faster Louder Reviews Melbourne Show

“Movement would be nice but it’s not necessary,” singer Stuart Smith assures the crowd in a friendly British voice. “Considering there’s so many of you, you’re quite quiet.” It is almost awkward. The air in the Toff is muggy, people packed wall to wall, but the crowd is still and lulled.

Sure, it’s a Wednesday night, but there’s more to it. This Town Needs Guns isn’t an average rock band you can do the indie-bop-and-nod to all night. You can start kicking your feet to the beat – but you’ll shortly find you are out of sync. The band has been stamped with the obscure ‘math-rock’ label, characterised by their use of shifting time signatures within a song; washing the crowd with waves of tension and feelings of unpredictability in the music. Maybe some find it frustrating initially, the fickleness of rhythm, but the serenity of the crowd suggests they have submitted to the unfamiliar territory the band is leading them through.
